1. Carolina Reaper

The spiciest chili in the world, the queen chili has broken her own record! In 2013, the Carolina Reaper was crowned as the spiciest chili globally with 1,569,383 SHU, and in 2018 upon re-testing, it rocketed to 2,200,000 SHU!
This chili is a hybrid between a hot Caribbean chili, the Red Habanero found on the island of St. Vincent, and the Naga chili found in Pakistan and was curated by Ed Currie. It was initially named HP22BNH7 but renamed to Carolina Reaper because of its reaper blade-like tail.
2. Trinidad Moruga Scorpian

SHU- 2,009,231
The Trinidad Moruga Scorpian is the spiciest naturally occurring chili, unlike the Carolina Reaper, a hybrid by humans. In 2012, the New Mexico State University’s Chilli Pepper Institute crowned the chili as the world’s newest spiciest chili.
The chilli is native to the islands of Trinidad and Tobago.
3. 7 Pot Douglah

SHU- 1,853,936
Another native chili from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, the 7 Pot Douglah is the 3rd spiciest chili in the world. Its skin color resembles the dark brown color of chocolate, and the surface has many dots on it.
The chili derives its name from the fact that one pod of the chili is enough to add spice and flavor to 7 pots of stew! Imagine its heat!
4. 7 Pot Primo

SHU- 1,473,480
An artificial chili, it was created in 2005 by horticulturist Troy Primeaux. This chili is a hybrid variety between the Naga Morich and the Trinidad 7 Pot.
The signature of this chili is its long skinny tail. It is primarily found in red color, but the orange and yellow-colored chilies are also seen.
5. Trinidad Scorpian Butch T

Beware of this chili if you don’t want to feel numb after dealing with it. This scorpion variety is another human-made chili developed by Butch Taylor of Zydeco Hot Sauce located in Mississippi, USA.
The Trinidad Scorpian is a former Guinness World Record Holder, which was crowned the spiciest chili in the world but lost its crown to fellow Trinidadian chili, the Trinidad Moruga Scorpian, in 2012. This chili derives its name from its creator Butch and also from its scorpion-like tail.
6. Naga Viper

Adding on to the spiciest chilies made by humans, the Naga Viper is a hybrid between the kings of chilies Naga Morich, Bhut Jolokia, and Trinidad Scorpion.
This chili was developed by Gerald Fowler of The Chilli Pepper Company, which is based in Cark, Cumbria.
To grow this chili, one needs to get the seeds directly from its curator and to cook this chili, full protective gear needs to be worn.
7. Bhut Jolokia

One of the spiciest naturally-occurring chilies, the Bhut Jolokia, is native to India. Bhut Jolokia literally translates to Ghost Pepper and is one of the most famous and well-known chilies worldwide.
The Bhut Jolokia is not only used in cooking but also in military tactics thanks to its spice level, which can make any human or animal numb.
8. 7 Pot Barrackpore

SHU- 1,300,000
Native to the Barrackpore region in the Trinidad island, the 7 Pot Barrackpore looks similar to the Bhut Jolokia but is somewhat larger in size.
This variety of the seven-pot chili stands true to its name and is enough to season 7 pots of stew. The chili is usually green in color when it first grows but later gets its signature red-color.
9. Red Savina

SHU- 500,000
The longest record holder for the title of the spiciest chili in the world was the Red Savina which had the title for 12 years from 1994 to 2006.
The Red Savina is a habanero variety and was bred on accident while trying to find another type. The chili has been protected and bred by the Plant Variety Protection Act of the US Government.
10. Habanero

Native to the Amazon, this chili is one of the most commonly available chilies in the market.
